Unleash your inner power during pregnancy with the dynamic fusion of dance and strength training.

As we embark on the journey of motherhood, integrating fitness into our lifestyle can pose many challenges, and we may find ourselves uncertain about what workouts are good for us and what is not.

While yoga and Pilates are excellent exercise choices, it is important to recognize the advantages of incorporating strength training into your fitness regime. Activities like dance and weight training would help increase muscle strength and make you feel stronger overall.

In addition, many females experience low energy levels and mood swings during pregnancy which are common occurrences. Dancing as a workout is a great option, serving as a dynamic and enjoyable solution to uplift your mood and exercise. With vibrant rhythms and stimulating movements, dancing provides a refreshing way to enhance your physical and emotional well-being.

How Dance Fitness can help with

Pregnancy Challenges

Soothe Body Pains

If you're currently dealing with back pain or discomfort, engaging in dance fitness can be beneficial. Dancing, in general, involves exercises that specifically target the glutes, hips, and mobility. As you move to the rhythm, you'll discover a sense of relief and release tension in those areas, ultimately promoting a more comfortable and relaxed body.

Healthy Weight Gain

Embrace a fun and effective cardio workout that supports healthy weight gain during pregnancy. Dance your way to a stronger, fitter you while nurturing your body and baby.

Boost Your Energy

Experiencing low energy levels during pregnancy is a common occurrence. However, dancing can be a fantastic remedy to revitalize your body and uplift your spirits. Let loose and move to the beat, as the dancing gets your heart pumping and provides a much-needed energy boost.

Lift Your Mood

Pregnancy can bring on a rollercoaster of emotions. Dance Fitness features upbeat music that can lift your spirits and put you in a positive mood. It's amazing how music and movement can have such a positive impact on your mind as well as on your body!

Connect with Others

Pregnancy can sometimes make you feel isolated, but remember, you're not alone. Dancing with others in a class brings together mothers who are going through similar experiences. It's a great opportunity to have fun, make friends, and build a supportive community.

Benefits of Combining Strength Training and Dancing

Combining the benefits of strength training and dancing together creates a powerhouse fitness routine that offers a multitude of advantages. Strength training exercises like squats, seated rows, or modified push-ups can enhance muscle tone, boost metabolism, and increase overall strength and endurance. Of course, it helps to engage professional trainers who can guide you in pre and post-natal exercises. These exercises can help improve bone density and support better posture, which would be especially helpful during pregnancy and postpartum recovery.

On top of that, doing Prenatal Dance Fitness or Zumba engages the entire body, promoting cardiovascular health, coordination, flexibility, and balance. It releases endorphins, improves mood, and provides a joyful and expressive outlet for self-expression. When strength training and dancing are combined, you experience the best of both worlds, sculpting your body while enjoying the exhilaration of movement and the freedom of dance. Together, they create a dynamic fusion that enhances physical fitness, promotes mental well-being, and adds an element of fun and excitement to your fitness journey.

Remember, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise program during pregnancy. They can provide personalized guidance and ensure that the exercises and movements are safe for your individual circumstances.

About Sashini

After working in the corporate field for over ten years, Sashini developed a passion for helping women in their fitness journey when she started to conduct dance fitness classes at her workplace for beneficiaries and volunteers.

"I have always been very active and energetic. I love dancing, exercising and outdoor activities. I strongly believe due to the combination of exercises I did, such as yoga, pilates, strength training, swimming and walking; I had a relatively easy pregnancy. Postpartum, I faced more difficulty losing my pregnancy weight. It took me one year to lose 15kg. I did a lot of cardio exercises such as running, HIIT and Dancing during this period, and I loved Dancing as a cardio workout the most. This experience helped me to connect even better with fellow mamas, help them to have realistic health and fitness goals and support them throughout their journey."

After becoming a personal trainer, my journey has been enriched by the countless benefits of strength training. As someone who has a passion for dancing and has explored various dance styles like Hip Hop, Zumba, Salsa, and Latin Dancing, I've combined my expertise to create a unique Dance Fitness Program. This program is designed to be fun and rhythmic and incorporates strength training elements, offering a workout that is both enjoyable and effective. By merging the dynamic movements of dance with the power of strength training, participants can experience a workout that is not only felt but also brings a sense of joy and fulfilment.
