5 Ways Fitness & Wellness Businesses Can Stay Relevant & Connected With Their Communities During COVID-19

With escalating concerns over COVID-19 and stricter government measures put in place to stay home and practice social distancing, we are no longer able to roam around as freely and safely as we once were able to. This has impacted many fitness and wellness providers globally, with some even voluntarily shutting down or being forced to shut down.

1. Create Content and Take To Social Media 

Whether you’re a wellness professional, personal trainer or fitness group class instructor, you have the knowledge and expertise to bring value to people who are stuck at home amidst this crisis. Use it to give your clients what they want and need by taking extra time to create useful information in the form of infographics, videos, or blog posts. 

If you’re a chiropractor, why not create a post with some tips on how to set up the home office so it’s ergonomically sound? Perhaps you’re a counselor. This pandemic is hugely unsettling and is causing lots of anxiety and stress in many ways. Help those struggling by writing out some effective strategies for coping with these emotions. Not only will you be doing something for the good of others, but you’ll also be building your online presence.

2. Partner Up 

There’s a proverb that goes “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. Although social distancing, self-isolation and quarantine measures may have you feeling like you’re all alone, there’s no time like now to unite with others and overcome challenges as a team. 

Use this time to reach out and build relationships with other businesses or professionals that have synergy with yours. Share content with each other, tap into each others’ network and showcase your brands and product/service offerings with each others’ client base. You’ll be surprised at how tough times facilitate the growth of relationships and present lots of opportunities for you to continue to grow your business.

3. Start Planning Ahead of Time 

As you can imagine, once the restrictions surrounding this pandemic become more lax, everyone is going to be itching to get out and back to the regular swing of how things used to be before this all happened. Whenever this may be, business owners should not only be prepared in case the pandemic worsens, but also come up with a strategy for how they can get ahead of the game once improvement of it starts coming to light. 

Think about how you can build more excitement for your existing clients and potential prospects once this all dies down, whether that’s through special rates or an all new campaign to make up for the lost time given the virus.

4. Take Your Services Online 

With stricter government rules and regulations put in place, many businesses have had to hit pause on their service offerings, or have just been experiencing a dip in their revenue or sales with people choosing to stay home as much as possible. 

Given these circumstances, many businesses are taking their services online. This may or may not be possible, particularly for some wellness practitioners where physical presence to conduct a service is necessary. However, for some of you, for example, personal trainers and group class instructors, consider ways to continue to offer your services digitally by conducting online personal training, or streaming your classes virtually! Whether you choose to do this as a free or paid service offering, your clients and regulars will appreciate that they can still continue to take do their favorite workouts to keep them sane as they are cooped up at home. 

5. Host Webinars

If events are part of your marketing strategy, the pandemic has probably meant that you have had to put all your upcoming ones on hold. If you’ve got most of the content on hand from when you were pre-planning for these, hosting these in the form of webinars should be fairly easy. Webinars are also convenient for you and your attendees who can tune in from the comfort of their own home (or even from abroad which they wouldn’t be able to do otherwise), and it's incredibly cost-effective too!
