Emotional balance is a state of emotional intelligence where we are aware of our emotions enough to manage them in a way that is gentle, honest, and wise. As Reiki Practitioner Stephanie Schueller puts it, Reiki is a gentle but powerful way that can help us back into balance physically and emotionally.

Emotional trauma is the result of extraordinarily stressful events that damages one’s sense of security, leaving one feeling numb, disconnected, and unable to trust other people. Such traumatic experiences often involve a threat to life or safety, but any situation that leaves you feeling overwhelmed and isolated can result in trauma, even if it doesn’t involve physical harm. Emotional trauma can be caused by many different factors, from childhood trauma, ongoing, relentless stress, or even commonly overlooked causes such as injury, chronic illness, or the loss of someone close. Emotional trauma can severely disrupt our emotional balance; however, with proper healing and changes, this can be overcome.

Read on as Stephanie walks us through the emotional and mental benefits of Reiki, as well as how it helps with past emotional trauma and balancing one’s emotions

What is Reiki?

A distinguished Japanese scholar, Dr Mikao Usui, discovered the remarkable method of Reiki over a century ago. Since then, his teachings have been taught and passed down through the International Usui Reiki Network. Reiki stands for “Rei”, meaning “Universal Life Force”, and “Ki”, meaning “Energy”. It is an ancient Japanese art of hands-on energy healing used to target stagnant energy in and around the body where there has been physical injury or emotional pain. Reiki is known to improve the flow of energy throughout the body and is said to enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed up healing and reduce symptoms of various illnesses.

During a Reiki session, the practitioner will place his or her hands on certain areas of the client’s body using specific positions and covering main organs or essential body systems and let your body’s own inner wisdom decide where the energy is most needed. Reiki promotes greater emotional balance. When we are in greater balance, our system runs better, and we sleep better, digest better, have better immunity, and are more resilient to stress.

What are the emotional and mental benefits of a Reiki and how does it help?

Reiki promotes emotional balancing in a variety of ways. Reiki energy can help the body to release stress, anxiety, and tension. This aids in better sleep and better clarity of mind, providing you with improved focus. This in turn promotes better harmony and a natural balance between the body, mind, and spirit.

When traumatic events occur, their energy gets stuck in a person’s energy field and energy chakras, causing emotional pain and eventually resulting in physical or chronic pain. Reiki aims to release these blockages and enable a person’s negative energy to dissipate. This process of releasing negative energy helps to reduce past emotional trauma.

What is the difference between a Psychiatrist and a Reiki Practitioner?

Reiki can greatly complement someone’s healing journey in combination with seeing a psychiatrist.  Talk therapy is excellent for getting intellectual clarity and insight into one’s problems, but it doesn’t clear emotional pain that may be trapped in the body’s energy field.

When our body is stressed or has experienced trauma, it enters the stage of “fight or flight”. During this stage, emotions are often buried in an attempt to assist the person through the traumatic experience. Emotions can get trapped and stored in the body as cellular memory. Through deep relaxation and calming of the spirit, those trapped and buried emotions and trauma can be gently released.

You don’t have to have experienced emotional trauma to benefit from a Reiki session. If you feel a nagging internal discomfort or unease, Reiki can greatly help you to rebalance your body, mind, and spirit and regain a more positive outlook.
